17 dance college scholarships up for grabs

Dancewave presents dance college fairThe Brooklyn-based dance education non-profit Dancewave is preparing to present its annual Dancing Through College & Beyond event, which it describes as the largest nationwide college informational session for students interested in dance.  This year, more than 15 of the nation’s top college dance programs will be offering scholarships ranging from $1,000 to full rides. Plus, dancewear sponsorships will be up for grabs.

Set for Saturday, October 22, the free college fair will take place at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center in NYC from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm. The event is expected to welcome more than 300 students from all over the country. All attendees will have the opportunity to explore over 45 of the nation’s top college dance programs, getting to meet one-on-one with program chairs, renowned faculty and choreographers, alumni, and students.

The live college auditions are scheduled for 3:45 and 5:30 pm, giving high school seniors the chance to tryout for more than 30 dance programs from around the country in just one day. This eliminates the exorbitant costs of traveling to each school individually.

Panel discussions will also be offered, with college department chairs and education specialists providing practical tips for submitting applications, requesting financial aid and auditioning.

Dancewave Executive and Artistic Director Diane Jacobowitz said in a news release, “We are proud to offer free access to college opportunities for a diverse range of high school students particularly because the college application process is often so confusing and costly. To further eliminate the financial barriers that come with the audition process and enable those high school seniors that are serious about dance the opportunity to audition for these elite programs speaks to our mission to make dance accessible to all.”
