American Dance Platform returns to The Joyce

American Dance Platform 2018 at Joyce TheaterThe Joyce Theater in New York City will soon present American Dance Platform, a diverse showcase now in its third year. Some of the most captivating American companies performing today will hit the stage, all in dedication to the memory of Theodore S. Bartwink of The Harkness Foundation for Dance.

 

This year’s festival, curated by Christine Tschida, the director of Northrop at the University of Minnesota, will feature eight stylistically different companies across four programs. See these programs listed below. For more information, head to www.joyce.org/american-dance-platform.

 

Caleb Teicher & Company and BODYTRAFFIC

January 9 at 7:30 p.m. and January 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Get ready for these two exciting, young troupes: Los Angeles’ sleek and crowd-pleasing BODYTRAFFIC alongside the swing, jazz and tap ensemble Caleb Teicher & Company.

 

Jessica Lang Dance and Backhausdance

January 10 at 7:30 p.m. and January 14 at 2 p.m.

For this program there are two visually striking contemporary dance companies: the dynamic and entertaining Backhausdance, making its Joyce debut, and Jessica Lang Dance, known for her exceptionally crafted work.

 

PHILADANCO! and Hālau O Kekuhi

January 11 at 8 p.m. and January 13 at 8 p.m.

Distinct cultural traditions fill this bill – from the African American contemporary dance of PHILADANCO! to the mesmerizing and fluid traditional hula of Hālau O Kekuhi.

 

Ensemble Español Spanish Theater and Trinity Irish Dance Company

January 12 at 8 p.m. and January 13 at 2 p.m.

This pairing investigates rhythm and includes Ensemble Español Spanish Theater in flamenco and folkloric dance alongside the percussive command of Trinity Irish Dance Company.
