Barnstorm Dance Fest provides a taste of the diverse Texas dance scene
The line-up for the 2016 Barnstorm Dance Fest has been announced. Taking place June 16-25 at The Barn in Houston, formerly known as the Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex, this year’s festival will feature works by 21 different dancemakers across three unique programs.
Now in it’s second year, the Barnstorm Dance Fest offers Houston audiences a diverse selection of Texas-based artists, both emerging and established.
Mollie Haven Miller, interim director of presenting organization Dance Source Houston (DSH), stated, “After an overwhelming response to the call for applications, curators were able to craft three distinct performance rosters to highlight a slice of what Houston has to offer. We are excited to expand the 2016 festival activities beyond performances to include talk back sessions and masterclasses with visiting performers.”
Five of the Barnstorm artists have spent the 2015-16 Season as artists-in-residence, receiving rent-free rehearsal space at The Barn in preparation for the June performances. Jacquelyne Jay Boe, Amy Elizabeth, Jasmine Hearn, Laura Gutierrez and Autumn Knight will appear together on Program B to allow audiences to see the full scope of the residency program.
The 2016 Barnstorm Dance Fest will reportedly serve as the final performance for DSH’s management of The Barn. The space will be celebrated immediately following the final show and the dance community is encouraged to attend.
