‘Billy Elliot’ auditions in San Diego

San Diego Musical Theatre and California Ballet to co-produce Billy ElliotSan Diego Musical Theatre and California Ballet will co-produce the musical production of Billy Elliot in September and October 2017. Auditions will soon be held for the lead roles of Billy Elliot and his best friend Michael.

Choreographer Jared Nelson and Musical Director Don LeMaster will join Director Jamie Torcellini on Thursday, October 20 at 4 pm to audition performers ages 8-13. The role of Billy will be played by a boy with a vocal range of E3-C5 who has a familiarity with dance. In the story, Billy is a boy who stumbles upon a ballet class and develops a passion for it, so young singers with ballet and tap training are perfect for this role. Any acrobatics, tumbling and/or gymnastics experience is a plus.

If chosen for this lead role, the performer will have to commit to a year of training, with rehearsals starting immediately on November 1. Ballet, tap, acrobatic, voice and Geordie dialect training will be provided upon acceptance. The performer will be paid a total of $3000 for a yearlong commitment of training, rehearsals and performances.

For the role of Michael, performers must be able to sing and move comfortably as well. Like with Billy, training in ballet, tap, acrobatic, voice and Geordie dialect will be provided upon acceptance. The stipend for this role is $1500 and rehearsals will begin on August 15, 2017.
