Dorothea Garland to lead Cleveland classes

Dorothea Garland with Ballets with a TwistIn celebration of its performance at the Ohio Theatre on September 19, New York City’s Ballets with a Twist will hold master classes for young dancers on Sunday, September 15 at Playhouse Square’s Gund Dance Studio.

 

Presented by Ballet in Cleveland, a new organization seeking to facilitate and host ballet events in Cleveland, Ohio, the classes will be led by ballet soloist Dorothea Garland. Garland can be seen performing as the Manhattan, Martini and Mai Tai in Ballets With A Twist’s Cocktail Hour production.

 

The master classes will be broken up into two major age groups, with a 13-and-above class from 12 to 1:30 p.m. and a 6-to-12-year-old class from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Children ages 6 to 12 should have some background in classical ballet. Dancers ages 13 and above should demonstrate an advanced beginning to intermediate level of ballet training.

 

Following each of the ballet classes, Garland and other company soloists will host a Q&A session and sign autographs.

 

The registration fee is about $35 per dancer and includes: a photo of Garland for her and other company soloists to autograph; a photograph of the dancer and his/her class (these will be sent to residences following the class); a dance bag and ballet tights courtesy of Body Wrappers.
