Explore techniques at Peridance this winter

NYC Winter Dance Intensive 2018Peridance Capezio Center in New York City will soon offer its 2018 Winter Intensive. Designed to offer supplemental training during the winter season, the intensive invites students aged 17-24 to explore the teaching, choreographic and improvisational techniques employed by some of New York City’s most prominent dance artists in the contemporary field.

Set for December 17-20, the goal of the Winter Intensive is to foster valuable industry relationships and to expose students to an array of career opportunities while enhancing their dance vocabulary and expanding their network.

This year’s collaborators include Igal Perry (Founder of Peridance Capezio Center and Artistic Director of the Peridance Contemporary Dance Company), Breton Tyner-Bryan (Artistic Director of Breton Follies), Kristen Carcone (Third Rail Projects and Co-Founder of TOES FOR DANCE), Gregory Dolbashian (Artistic Director of the DASH Ensemble and Co-Founder of The Playground NYC) and Mike Esperanza (Artistic Director of BARE Dance Company).

With 5+ hours of dancing per day, the Winter Intensive offers a diverse study of dance techniques, such as improvisation, contemporary, ballet and theater. The intensive also includes a dance media class. In this class the dancers will learn choreography and blocking and then work together in a collaborative way to create a film that they can take with them when they return home to share with friends and family, as well as use professionally for dance reels and social media.

The dancers will also participate in a photo shoot and a mock audition, to practice the skill of auditioning, while receiving personalized feedback from Peridance Winter Intensive faculty and staff members.

A former participant called the Winter Intensive “wonderful” and “challenging”, which another said their favorite part was “the intimacy of it” and how the teachers called students by name.

One dancer recounted, “The faculty was incredible. I learned so much from each of them and their dance styles were also incredibly diverse, which added to the experience.”

The intensive costs $400, plus a $30 application fee. Registration closes November 26. For more information or to register, visit www.peridance.com.
