‘King Kong’ launches Broadway rehearsals

King Kong The MusicalIt’s official! Rehearsals are now underway for the new Broadway musical King Kong. Performances are set to begin Friday, October 5 prior to a Thursday, November 8 grand opening at Broadway Theatre. This production has been in the works for many years, with Australia receiving an early rendition of the show five whole years ago.

Directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie, this King Kong production promises a contemporary take on the classic tale of beauty and the beast. Utilizing an innovative mix of animatronics, puppetry, music and stagecraft, King Kong will follow the ambitious young actress Ann Darrow and maverick filmmaker Carl Denham as they voyage from the bustling streets of 1930’s New York to an uncharted island to capture the world’s greatest wonder – a 2,000-pound, 20-foot high gorilla.

The cast features Christiani Pitts (A Bronx Tale) as Ann Darrow, Eric William Morris (Mamma Mia!) as Carl Denham and Erik Lochtefeld (Misery, Metamorphoses) as Lumpy. Chloë Campbell (Hamilton Chicago, Tuck Everlasting) is among the ensemble cast.
