Limón Dance Co. hosts Summer Workshops

Limón Dance Company hosts 2016 Summer WorkshopsThe Limón Dance Company is hosting various workshops for students and teachers across the country this summer. Participants have the opportunity to train in modern dance pioneer José Limón’s historic technique and to learn some of his company’s repertory directly from company members and leaders.

Summer Workshops are coming to Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Ohio, Montreal, London, Merida and Prague this year. Registration is still open for the student workshops in Fullerton, CA (June 12-25) and Kent, OH (July 25-August 12.) Registration is also still open for the following teachers workshops: Montreal, Canada (June 20-25); New York, USA (July 25-August 5); and Prague, Czech Republic (August 22-27.) Later this year, a teacher workshop will be held in London, England too. (Save the date for October 24-28.)

The California Student Workshop will be led by incoming Limón Dance Company Artistic Director Colin Connor and master teachers Debra Noble and Dante Puleio.

The Montreal Teachers Workshop will be led by Associate Artistic Director Roxane D’Orleans Juste. It is intended as an extension of the first-level teacher’s workshop. Juste will also lead the six-day introductory-level Prague Teachers Workshop.

The New York Teachers Workshop offers two options: the two-week “Teaching Contemporary Limón” course and the continuation of this with the “Advanced Technique and Pedagogy” three-credit course, which requires an additional week. Both workshops will explore how the Doris Humphrey/José Limón principles can inform and enrich dance training today. The three-credit course will just dive deeper as participants investigate the concepts and constructs of their home dance “technique” from a pedagogical perspective.
