NextMove Dance reveals its 2017-18 Season

Compagnie Hervé Koubi coming to PhiladelphiaNextMove Dance, Philadelphia’s presenter of contemporary dance, recently revealed its 2017-18 “Season of WOW”, which will include company debuts, local premieres and masterworks in 40 performances at the Prince Theater. The new season will run October 12, 2017- May 13, 2018.

 

Making its Philadelphia debut and opening the season on October 12-15 is Algeria’s all-male Compagnie Hervé Koubi, whose style meshes contemporary with hip-hop. The Paul Taylor Dance Company will perform three of Taylor’s greatest hits including Esplanade on November 2-5. Then Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, A Dance Company will perform Torch, an infectious work fusing African and contemporary dance, as the last 2017 program on December 14-17.

 

Kicking off the New Year, Portland’s BodyVox will return with its retrospective 20th anniversary program, Urban Meadow, on January 18-21. Canada’s Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal will follow that up, dancing the Philadelphia premiere of O Balcao de Amor by Itzik Galili to music by Perez Prado on February 15-18.

 

Company Wang-Ramirez will make its Philadelphia debut on March 15-18 with Monchichi, a riveting urban Tanz theater work where cultures and genres collide. Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will then arrive at the Prince Theater alongside The Ahn Trio to perform the full-length work A Quest for Freedom on April 19-22.

 

Finally, MOMIX will close the season on May 10-13 with a production showcasing its best hits, including Philadelphia premieres.

Note that all performances take place on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.; Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sundays at 3 p.m.
