Step Up: High Water launches on YouTube Red this Wednesday, January 31. Based on the Step Up film franchise that grossed $650 million at the global box office, Step Up: High Water promises to be an exhilarating and sexy 10-episode drama. It’s focused on several determined young dancers in a fictional contemporary performing arts school in Atlanta. The new series aims to address real issues around diversity while busting some serious dance moves.

The main characters include Janelle, played by Lauryn McClain, and Tal, played by Petrice Jones. Janelle and Tal are twins who recently moved from suburban Ohio to Atlanta to live with their uncle. She is an ambitious dancer trying to navigate the Atlanta hip-hop scene while Tal is trying to find his place too. As the pair settles into their new life, they meet Dondre, played by Marcus Mitchell. He introduces them to Atlanta’s party scene, where they learn that High Water is auditioning dancers.

Ne-Yo stars as Sage Odom, the founder of the famed High Water Performing Arts School. Naya Rivera plays Collette, a former dancer turned High Water administrator. One special guest in the show is Broadway veteran and global tap sensation Savion Glover. He teaches a class to Tal (Jones) and other series regulars, like Poppy, played by Kendra Oyesanya.
