Tony Awards announce 2018 Winners
Last night, the American Theatre Wing’s 72nd Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards took place at Radio City Music Hall. The winners were announced in 26 competitive categories as the live show was broadcast on CBS.
The musical The Band’s Visit was the big winner of the night, claiming 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical and Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two also racked up awards, receiving a total of six, including Best Play and Best Director. Originally the musicals Mean Girls and SpongeBob SquarePants had led nominations, gathering 12 nods each.
Choreographer Justin Peck won Best Choreography for Carousel. The other nominees had included Casey Nicholaw for Mean Girls, Steven Hoggett for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and Christopher Gattelli for two shows – My Fair Lady and SpongeBob SquarePants.
