2023 Breaking Ground Contemporary Dance Festival

An exhilarating weekend of performances, master classes and social events featuring some of the most important voices in contemporary dance today, the Breaking Ground Contemporary Dance Festival comes to Tempe Center for the Arts. Tightly curated by a panel of nationally recognized adjudicators, this annual festival features cutting-edge choreographers, filmmakers and performers from Arizona and around the nation.

2023 Breaking Ground Contemporary Dance Festival will be held over the course of two days, January 27 and 28, 2023 at 7:30 pm at the Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe.

Highlights of the Festival include Liliana Gomez’s work which examines her cultural heritage and the concept of one’s homeland, Bobby Morgan’s piece which combines vogue, jazz and contemporary dance and Carley Conder’s piece which is a collaboration with visual artist Kris Manzanares, costume designer Cari Smith and musician DJ Panic.

Nationally recognized as one of the most innovative contemporary dance festivals in the U.S., 2023 Breaking Ground Contemporary Dance Festival is presented by CONDER/dance. Led by Artistic Director Carley Conder, CONDER/dance is comprised of the top contemporary dancers in Phoenix. Carley Conder founded CONDER/dance in 2003 and has brought the company to national acclaim, including its recent partnership with Taliesin West and being named “Best Collaboration of 2021” by the Phoenix New Times.
