Applications Now Open for Detroit Dance City Festival’s Choreographers Showcase

Applications for Detroit Dance City Festival’s Choreographers Showcase are now open. Don’t miss your chance to submit choreography to an international dance festival and network with thousands of dancers!

The Detroit Dance City Festival (DDCF) is an annual community-building event designed to cultivate, promote, and celebrate the art of dance in its various forms and disciplines. Held within the great city of Detroit, and drawing participants from an ever-expanding local, national, and international community, DDCF strives to educate diverse audiences about the impact of dance, provide opportunities for artists to share their work, and create an artistic network linking Michigan, the greater US, and the world.

The Choreographers Showcase is one of DDCF’s most highly anticipated indoor performance events, providing a platform for choreographers to present their work on the majestic Detroit Film Theatre stage. DDCF’s Choreographers Showcase is an opportunity to bring together artists and dancers from around the world to share their current projects with each other, and with DDCF audiences alike. Pieces will be thoughtfully selected to showcase an inclusive representation of local, national, and international talent.

All accepted Choreographers Showcase participants will automatically be considered for the DDCF Festival Exchange Program. This unique initiative gives presenters at the 2021 Choreographers Showcase the opportunity to be selected to perform their work again the following year at one of DDCF’s partnering international festivals. Festival Exchange Program recipients will be selected from among Choreographer Showcase presenters by a panel of adjudicators who represent excellence and expertise in the field.

There are both national and international opportunities. One Choreographer will be selected for the opportunity to return as a guest performer at the 2023 Detroit Dance City Festival. Internationally, there are two opportunities for two separate choreographers: one at the 2023 New Dance Festival in Daejeon, South Korea and one at the 2023 Tanzhafen festival in Linz, Austria.

The Detroit Dance City Festival 2022 will be held September 8-11, 2022 at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Group submissions must be ten minutes or less (including set-up and strike) and solos must be seven minutes or less (including set-up and strike). Applicants are welcome to submit work in any style of dance.

In order to apply, you must fill out and submit the appropriate application form, and submit your application fee. Early-bird application is $45 per work and due by February 25. Regular application is $50 per work and due by March 25. For more information click here
