Artists chosen for Elite Choreographic Initiative in Chicago

River North Dance Chicago's 2016 Elite Choreographic InitiativeRiver North Dance Chicago (RNDC) recently announced the five “amazing” choreographers chosen for this year’s Elite Choreographic Initiative: Hanna Brictson, Becca Lemme, Tom Mattingly, Adam McGaw and Ahmad Simmons.

The way the Elite Choreographic Initiative (ECI) works is the chosen choreographers get to collaborate with and test new movement on pre-professional and professional dancers who attend the program. Every dancer selected (they must have auditioned and been cast by the choreographers) will participate in the creation of a new work.

The choreographers are all working professionals from the families of RNDC and fellow Windy City company, Visceral Dance Chicago. Dancers, ages 14-26, are usually the participants of RNDC Summer Training Levels 6, 7 or 8 and/or from Visceral Dance Chicago’s Advanced/Pro Intensive.

ECI runs August 8-12 this year, costing $500-550 and taking place at Ruth Page Center for the Arts, located at 1016 N. Dearborn. Dancers will take a technique class each morning and will rehearse the remainder of the day, developing choreography and artistry in an environment very similar to that of a professional company.
