Aszure Barton & Artists tours to California

Aszure Barton & Artists in AwaaAszure Barton & Artists will tour to San Francisco and San Diego with Founder and Director Aszure Barton’s Awáa in February. Visionary, free-spirited and in-demand choreographer Aszure Barton assembles visual, sound and performance collaborators to bring her intense contemporary works to the stages of the world.

Awáa undulates with hip-hop coolness and a high-energy meditation on the choreographer’s extraordinary dream of an underwater rocking chair that combines live performance with video and a propulsive original musical score by Lev “Ljova” Zhurbin and Curtis Macdonald for strings and percussion.

The production will first visit Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) in San Francisco on February 7-8. Then it will visit the University of California in San Diego on February 19. Tickets for both performances are available online or by calling (415) 392-2545.

In between California performances, Aszure Barton & Artists will have a Creative Residency in San Francisco. Plus, while in San Francisco, company artists will also be teaching master classes (or “audshops” as they call them) at the Alonzo King LINES Dance Center. Dancers can also sign-up for the master classes online. Make sure to sign-up early to receive the early-bird rate.
