August & September Online Workshops with Anabella Lenzu

Anabella Lenzu will offering two online workshops in August and September this year. Originally from Argentina, Anabella Lenzu is a dancer, choreographer, writer and teacher with over 30 years of experience working in Argentina, Chile, Italy, and the USA. Lenzu directs her own company, Anabella Lenzu/Dance Drama (ALDD), and has been commissioned all over the world for opera, TV programs, theatre productions, and by many dance companies.

August’s focus will be on Words and Movement Relationship. This workshop will give you the tools to create your own original dances, exploring the elements of composition. You will explore how words and movement (verbal and non-verbal communication) complement each other, facilitating kinesthetic empathy. As choreographers and creators, participants will ask themselves: how do we deal with the relationship and overlapping layers so that dance, music, and the poetry of the lyrics intertwine to create dances both for the stage as well as for dance films? Participants will also create and perform solo studies based on choreographic problems. Classes will take place via Zoom on Mondays, August 1, 8, & 15, 2022 from 11 AM – 1 PM (EDT).

September’s workshop will be focused on Music and Dance Relationship. Anabella believes that music acts as a partner to dance. Music influences the dancer, the choreographer, and the audience, building a unique atmosphere around the stage, facilitating kinesthetic empathy. As choreographers, participants will ponder: how do we deal with the relationship and overlapping layers so that dance, music, and the poetry of the lyrics intertwine to create the multifaceted and profoundly human characters you see on stage? During this three-day workshop, you will explore the different relationships between Music, Movement, and Lyrics, stimulating your creativity. Classes will take place via Zoom on Saturdays, September 10, 17, & 24, 2022 from 11 AM – 1 PM (EDT).
