Avant Chamber Ballet’s New Virtual Premieres – Women’s Choreography Project, Solos

While most in-person performances have been cancelled and postponed this year, arts organizations like Avant Chamber Ballet have used 2020 as an opportunity to expand into different ways of creating new works and collaborating. This summer ACB started Women’s Choreography Project SOLOS – a series of commissions bringing together choreographers, musicians, and dancers virtually.

“Every year ACB commissions new work from female choreographers presented on stage in a traditional way here in Dallas,” says ACB director Katie Puder. “But this year, the WCP SOLOS have opened us up to working with choreographers and audiences living anywhere.”

ACB have released the third creation in the project connecting choreographer Shauna Davis, ACB dancer Jordan Carter, and violinist Lydia Umlauf from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The video is also a collaboration with the Nasher Sculpture Center with Carter performing in the garden with the sculpture almost as a partner to the dance.

All three videos in the series can be viewed on Avant Chamber Ballet’s YouTube channel or social media accounts. New works will continue to be released throughout this fall and winter.
