IABD to present 28th Annual Conference

2016 International Association of Blacks in Dance Conference and FestivalThe International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) will hold its 28th Annual Conference and Festival on January 20-24, 2016, in Denver, Colorado, as hosted by Cleo Parker Robinson Dance.

In marking 25 years of serving the Black Dance field, IABD will host its festival representing the broadest gathering of Black Dance professionals in the U.S. and internationally. The festival will have everyone from agents, artistic directors, artists, choreographers, company managers, executive directors, historians, presenters, scholars to teachers in attendance.

Over four days, attendees will engage in invaluable professional and networking opportunities, including workshops and panel sessions that will provide experiential hands-on learning paired with examples of successful new models that reflect the field’s entrepreneurial spirit. Performances will feature dancers from more than 30 dance organizations across the country and abroad, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Philadanco! The keynote speaker is Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, founding and artistic director of Urban Bush Women.

Plus, all teachers, instructors and studio owners have special activities planned for them and their students. Dance classes are available for students and teachers will receive instruction from leading master teachers across various dance genres.

Professional, college-age and pre-professional dancers can register for the conference and festival too, with a focus on classes. The conference will also host auditions – both for students for summer programs and college/university dance programs and for professionals with a multi-dance company audition.
