Michele Wiles & Jay Donn lead Cali workshop

Michele Wiles and Jay Donn WorkshopSanta Barbara Festival Ballet (SBFB) will host a Master Workshop with Michele Wiles and Jay Donn on August 15-19 for advanced dancers ages 13 and up. Registration is still open.

SBFB, formerly known as Goleta Civic Ballet, was founded in 1968 by former American Ballet Theatre dancers Robert and Carol Hanlin. The couple, who had danced with legends like George Balanchine, Anthony Tudor and the Christensen Brothers, opened their school first in 1964 and later this company, which soon began collaborating with the local Santa Barbara Symphony to produce its annual Nutcracker production.

The current directors of SBFB, Aimee Lopez and Denise Rinaldi, invited Wiles, a former ABT dancer like the Hanlins, and Donn, the founder of the Brooklyn dance style Flexing, to teach their students ballet technique, Flex movement, choreography, pointe and variations. Wiles and Donn frequently collaborate and work together, fusing their styles for Wiles’ New York-based company BalletNext.

To register for the 5-day workshop, which costs $550, students should email info@santabarbarafestivalballet.com to sign up. Visit santabarbaranutcrackerballet.com for further information on SBFB. To learn more about BalletNext, Wiles or Donn, head to www.balletnext.com. SBFB is located at 1019 B. Chapala Street in Santa Barbara, CA.
