NW Dance Project Summer Dance Platform
NW Dance Project has announced a new Summer 2022 Dance Platform. Spend 4 enriching weeks with NW Dance Project in an open and safe studio, connect with other dancers and artists, be inspired, and activate your artistic and physical practices in a spacious and stimulating environment.
Dancers will work with NW Dance Project’s extraordinary guest artists, directors and award-winning company members as they are mentored to push and develop their creativity, ideas, and versatility. Calgary Heral says of NW Dance, “Some of the best dancers you will ever see.”
NW Dance is looking for dancers who are curious, open and desiring opportunities to push beyond their current capabilities. Dancers need to be physically fit for the rigor and intensity required of the program. This includes having the stamina to be fully active for up to 8 hours per day.
Today’s dancers are asked to improvise, reinvent steps, switch up phrases, change musicality, and make impulsive, artistic choices. Technique alone is not enough — dancers must also now be creators. Dancers will train while being immersed in professional technique classes and experience the creative process, repertoire, improvisation, and movement styles that are necessary tools for every dancer. This intense, hands-on month of training will provide dancers with the insights, improvisational skills, and creative tools that are needed by the most sought-after companies and choreographers of today.
Each day will start with a ballet class followed by a contemporary technique class. Dancers will be mentored and participate in repertoire, improvisation, composition and choreographic development sessions Monday to Saturday. Informative discussions with NW Dance artists on career planning and life as a professional dancer will also be offered.
NW Dance Project has re-vamped their previous projects (LAUNCH + MOVE) to offer two separate platforms MOVE and PRO to engage artists. Participating dancers will be split into groups by age, merit and experience in order to facilitate increased individual attention and direction.
MOVE PLATFORM is geared towards dancers pivoting to professional career. Dancers AGE 18+ can audition for this platform, and there are a limited number of spots available. NW Dance is prioritizing dancers completing college/conservatory training. The program will take place from 9 AM – 5 PM Monday-Friday, and 12-4 PM on Saturdays.
Acceptance into the program will be highly competitive. All applicants are encouraged to apply/audition early as enrollment will be prioritized on a rolling application basis.
PRO PLATFORM is geared towards dancers to train, develop, and grow in the contemporary dance form. Dancers age 14+ can audition for this platform. The program will take place from 9 AM – 5 PM Monday-Friday, and 12-4 PM on Saturdays.
NW Dance Project is committed to offering a supportive and encouraging environment so that each dancer can develop and discover their unique creative voice.
Both platforms will occur from July 11 to August 5, 2022. Ticketed public show performances are scheduled for August 5. Cost to attend is $2,500. Dancers are accepted into the program via an audition process. Both in-person and virtual live auditions are available. All participants must be fully vaccinated and comply with NW Dance’s masking mandates.
