Visceral Dance announces 10th Anniversary Season
Visceral Dance Chicago, a nationally and internationally recognized force in contemporary dance, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of performances in Chicago at the new Ann Barzel Theater within Visceral Dance Center, highlighted by a 10th Anniversary Performance April 28 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.
“I’m extremely proud of the extraordinary growth of both the company and the school,” said Founder and Artistic Director Nick Pupillo. “I look forward to our future and continuing to expand our impact in the community.”
Primary company performances during the season include:
A Winter engagement from February 17–26, 2023. The program includes Minor Threat by Mark Godden, Pick a Chair by Danielle Agami, Atlas by Nick Pupillo, and a new work by a guest choreographer to be announced later. Thursday (Feb. 23 only) at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m. at The Ann Barzel Theater at Visceral Dance Center, 3121 N. Rockwell, Chicago.
The company presents a 10th Anniversary Performance and celebration showcasing 10 years of Visceral, including a premiere by Pupillo and audience favorites. Springten will run on April 28, 2023 at 7:30 p.m., at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph, Chicago.
Additionally, a public performance of Solus at The Ann Barzel Theater at Visceral Dance Center, 3121 N. Rockwell, Chicago will take place May 18-21, 2023. Each year, Pupillo identifies a theme and selects 10 choreographers who each create work for an individual Visceral dancer. Solus is a performance featuring the resulting solo works. Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m.
Visceral Dance Chicago, founded and led by Artistic Director Nick Pupillo, has been engaging and connecting its artists with audiences since 2013 and is now a nationally and internationally recognized driving force in contemporary dance. The company has developed a diverse and respected repertoire that continues to challenge audiences’ expectations. Coinciding with the company’s 10th anniversary is the 15th anniversary of the Visceral Dance Center, which offers classes for youth and adults seven days a week, taught by industry professionals. Visceral Dance Center is known for its positive environment, exceptional faculty, and a brand-new, spacious state-of-the art facility located in the Avondale neighborhood along the Chicago River. This new space serves the growing needs of the entire Chicago arts community, which uses the building for rehearsals, workshops, and auditions, and also includes an in-house theater space, The Ann Barzel Theater, available for performances and special events.
