2013 Tony Award nominations announced!
Nominations in 26 competitive categories for The 67th Annual Tony Awards were announced on Tuesday, April 30th by stage and screen actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Tony Award-winning actress Sutton Foster. The nominees were selected by an independent committee of 24 theater professionals appointed by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. The 2013 Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
The productions that received the most Tony nominations are Kinky Boots with 13, Matilda The Musical with 12, Pippin with 10 and closely behind, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella with 9 and Golden Boy with 8.
For Best Choreography, Andy Blankenbuehler was nominated for Bring It On: The Musical, Peter Darling for Matilda The Musical, Jerry Mitchell for Kinky Boots and Chet Walker for Pippin.
The 67th Annual Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 9th from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST on the CBS Television Network. The awards honor theater professionals for distinguished achievement on Broadway.
The Tony Awards ceremony, which was first held in April 1947, is presented by Tony Award Productions, which is a joint venture of The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Tonys were founded in memorial to Antoinette (“Tony”) Perry, the American Theatre Wing’s World War II chairperson. The final winners are selected by approximately 830 eligible voters every year.
For this contest, Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment will return as executive producers. Also, Weiss will serve as director for the 14th consecutive year.
