American Dance Movement Reveals Official 2024 National Dance Day Routine
American Dance Movement (ADM) has announced the official 2024 National Dance Day routine, choreographed by Emmy-nominated choreographer Christopher Scott with special guest Cyrus “Glitch” Spencer, and set to the song “Good Time” by Anthony Ramos. The routine invites dancers and enthusiasts alike to embrace dance as a valuable form of exercise and artistic expression leading up to the nationwide celebration and 15th anniversary of National Dance Day on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Scott has a distinguished career, having choreographed numerous high-profile projects including the highly anticipated upcoming feature film adaptation of the worldwide Broadway phenomenon Wicked and has received multiple accolades for his contributions to the dance world. Renowned for his creative choreography and bold innovation, Scott has contributed to shows including So You Think You Can Dance and films such as Teen Beach Movie and Z-O-M-B-I-E-S. He has worked with a variety of artists including Gwen Stafani, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Khalid and Miguel, among others. He was also featured in Beyoncé’s “Get Me Bodied” music video and has appeared as a dancer on TV and in films, including “Glee”, “17 Again”, “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and “The Hannah Montana Movie.” Beyond his dancing skills, Scott has also stepped into the directing chair for his short film, “How to Catch a Ghost,” and for multiple episodes for The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. He has also helped produce hit films such as the Emmy-winning Disney+ original movie, Sneakerella, ABC’s Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Anniversary Celebration and more.
Each year since 2010, American Dance Movement has celebrated National Dance Day with an official routine from acclaimed choreographers that aims to make dance more accessible and inclusive. The tutorial is meant to act as a guide for the official routine, and American Dance Movement encourages dancers of all abilities, ages and skill levels to make it their own by putting their unique spin on it.
This year’s instructional video includes a step-by-step tutorial of the routine, demonstrated by Scott, Spencer and other talented dancers including Lauren Froderman, So You Think You Can Dance season 7 champion; Dakayla Wilson, So You Think You Can Dance season 18 runner-up; Kaylee Bays, known as The Dancer on Wheels who just returned from performing in the Paralympics Opening Ceremony; and Kellie Kessling. This year’s routine is available on ADM’s YouTube channel and website.
Anyone may participate in National Dance Day by sharing a video of themselves doing the choreographed routine on social media, as well as tagging and mentioning ADM on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok at @AmericanDanceMovement, and using the hashtags #NationalDanceDay2024 and #DanceWithADM. Participants may also join interactive co-hosted events around the country on Saturday, Sept. 21 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.; Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California; and Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida.
ADM has encouraged communities to get moving through dance for more than a decade, as well as educating the public about its many benefits, such as improved cardiovascular health, self-confidence, self-expression, social skills and let’s not forget, fun.
