Artichoke Dance announces Arts Incubator for Change-Making program

The Arts Incubator for Change-Making is a new year-long program by Artichoke Dance Company aimed at developing the arts and culture sector as an agent for change. The program starts with 40 hours of in-person training held from June 22–26, 2026 in Brooklyn, NY, continues with 20 hours of individual mentorship, includes a half-day reconvening of the cohort in December 2026, and culminates with the presentation and production of participants’ work in a professional setting in the spring of 2027. The Arts Incubator for Change-Making is designed for artists working in any medium or genre, as well as for cultural workers interested in integrating activism and community-building strategies into their work, with a focus on environmental justice and climate change.

“It is my firm belief that in order to meet today’s challenges of converging crises, a cultural shift needs to occur. This is where artists and cultural workers can really make a difference, in creating cultural change. We’ve created this program to empower people who want to use their creativity and artistic practices to meet these challenges and build community around their work in doing so,” says Lynn Neuman, Director, Artichoke Dance Company.

Within the program, participants will explore approaches to eco-arts activism, actively develop aspects of their creative and social practices, build skills to support and sustain this work, gain practical activism strategies, grow a professional network, strengthen community connections, and develop a project or advance an aspect of their career. The program culminates with participants sharing the outcomes of their work, which could take the form of a new artistic piece, a presentation of their process and/or community-based outcomes, a participatory experience, or any other format the participant conceives.

Total program cost is $1,250 with an application deadline of May 8, 2026. Scholarships are available with priority for applicants living or working in environmental justice communities. Scholarship deadline is April 17, 2026. This program is not geographically restricted and welcomes applicants located from within and outside the NYC metropolitan area. Funding from the Creative Equations Fund will fully support two Brooklyn based performing artists in the program with full scholarships and project stipends.
