Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida presents ‘Dr. Ouch!’
Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, under the artistic direction of Maestro Vladimir Issaev, brings back its acclaimed Family Series with the fantastical tale of Dr. Ouch!. The show will run March 7-8 at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and will show on March 14 at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
Arts Ballet’s Spring season opens with Dr. Ouch!, a vibrant two-act comedy ballet choreographed by Vladimir Issaev, based on the beloved poems and novella written by Russian author Kornei Chukovsky. The story follows Doctor Ouch as he travels to Africa to cure a group of sick monkeys. They are joined by a veritable zoo of zany characters, animal and human alike!
On this journey, Doctor Ouch and his companions will face wild and whimsical adventures- most notably when they are captured by a crew of mischievous pirates, led by the notorious Pirate Barmalei!
Set to an engaging score by Morozov, Lecoque, and Kabalevsky, this production features a cast of the outstanding professional dancers from the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida joined by young and talented performers from the Vladimir Issaev School of Classical Ballet.
With imaginative costumes by Jorge Gallardo and spirited choreography from Issaev, the story from Chulovsky’s 1929 poems comes to life with vivid digital backdrops that drops audiences into right into Doctor Ouch’s playful world of imagination. A very imaginative character created by Master Puppeteer Jim Hammond, will join the family of animals in this tale. With a focus on animal rights, the show is perfect for families looking for an outing that is both delightful and educational.
