Avant Chamber Ballet Announces Women’s Choreography Project 2024
Avant Chamber Ballet Artistic Director Katie Puder announces the company’s 10th year of Women’s Choreography Project with two world premiere commissions from Dallas-based female choreographers – Kaylee Skelton and Hailey Von Schlehenried. The performances will take place March 29-30th at 7:30pm at Sammons Center for the Arts. The evening will also feature restaged works by Katie Puder and Madelaine Boycce.
“Women’s Choreography Project is a big part of the identity of ACB,” says artistic director Katie Puder. “New works, equity in the arts, and live music is what we have been passionate about since day one and I am so happy to be celebrating our tenth year with these two new works.”
The world of ballet is historically dominated by men in leadership and artistic roles. Women’s Choreography Project works to bring equity to classical dance giving female artistic voices the opportunity to present new works on a professional company. Currently there is a national conversation in the world of dance about the lack of female choreographers and the opportunities for them. Avant Chamber Ballet is directly addressing the problem and helping to bring equity to the art form. Since its inception the project has commissioned a total of 20 new works.
This year’s performance will include live music in an intimate setting of Kurth Hall at Sammons Center for the Arts. The theater lets you experience dancing up close and a reception follows after the performance where audience members can meet the artists. The $50 ticket includes the post-performance reception with an open bar and appetizer. Seating is limited to just 80 guests.
