B. MOORE DANCE at the Joyce Theater

B. MOORE DANCE heads to New York City to perform at the iconic Joyce Theater as part of the seventh annual American Dance Platform (ADP). As one of only three companies hand-selected by curator and acclaimed choreographer Ronald K. Brown, the opportunity is prestigious. The legendary Joyce Theater is known for presenting some of the best dances across the country.

Artistic Director and choreographer, Bridget L. Moore says, “It is an honor for B. MOORE DANCE to perform at The Joyce Theater-American Dance Platform, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to share significant work that has been created over the span of a decade.”

With an artistically diverse program rooted in African-American and global dance aesthetics, B. MOORE DANCE performs at The Joyce Theater on Wednesday, January 11th at 7:30 PM and Saturday, January 14th at 8:00 PM.

The company will treat audiences to Moore’s most celebrated works, Southern Recollections: Romare Bearden, Rose Gold, and Uncharted Territory. All pieces have been uniquely stylized, created and developed for the incredible and dynamic dancers of B. MOORE DANCE. Dance critic Stacy Upton describes Moore’s work as, “brilliant, innovative choreography with full extension, gorgeous lines, powerful strength, and pure joyful energy.”

Audiences will be captivated by the New York premiere of the company’s newest work, Rose Gold, which Moore describes as “sweet and lethal in the symbolism of the rose flower.” Associated with love and beauty, Rose Gold is contemporary and classic in form, reflecting the human experience, and conveys the greatest gift of expression to the world, LOVE.

Southern Recollections: Romare Bearden, inspired by the eponymous Harlem Renaissance painter, is an eclectic and jazzy work forging the past, bringing forward the present. Moore was commissioned to create this work through a (2012) Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award from the Princess Grace Foundation, USA. Since its inception, the piece continues to evolve and thrill audiences with its striking visuals and sultry movements that emulate the collage paintings of Romare Bearden through motion.

Rounding out the program, Moore’s Uncharted Territory explores and challenges what dance can be from an Avant-garde, fashionista, and cultural perspective, with costume designs by long-term collaborator, Fernando Hernandez. Inspired by Moore’s travels throughout Asia, Uncharted Territory illustrates the viewer’s perspective of the impact of cultures by blending haute couture with the seemingly impossible combination of grace and pure athleticism for which B. MOORE DANCE has come to be known.
