Crelata® Launches Series of Virtual Popping Lessons
Crelata, an arts education company based in Brooklyn, New York, announced the launch of Popping, its latest series of online dance classes. Crelata offers sequential on-demand dance lessons for students of all ages and experience levels in an easy-to-use, ad-free format designed for use in K-12 schools or wherever students are taught. The video lessons come with supplemental materials like lesson plans, discussion questions, and extension activities. The content is accessible with American Sign Language and English and Spanish closed captions.
Crelata founder Ella Rosewood’s middle school students were desperate to learn Popping, but she didn’t know how to teach it. “I carefully curated the few videos I could find online and presented them to my class. Much to my dismay, the videos were too fast, too hard, poor quality, had ads that popped up at inconvenient times, and didn’t engage the students in creative thinking. My students shut down. That’s why I started Crelata.”
“I tried this program with some of my most difficult classes (from lack of engagement to behavioral issues), and I was amazed to see how engaged they were!” shared K-8 teacher Bianca Megaro. “I loved having a resource that could accurately teach a dance style I was unfamiliar with, and my students got to see me be vulnerable and try something new with them. I can’t wait to try out more of their programming.”
Popping is a series of eleven lessons, each approximately 40 minutes long, taught by Sophia LaVonne. LaVonne is a dancer, choreographer, educator, and actress working in Los Angeles and New York City. She is a teaching artist for UniverSoul Hip Hop and has guest taught at UCLA, New York University, and in several countries, making her the perfect teacher for Crelata’s latest series.
Popping joins Crelata’s library of dance lessons designed by experienced dance educators and taught by experts in each dance style. Teachers, schools, and families can try the first lesson of Popping and Salsa for free at crelata.com. In the future, access to Crelata will include interviews with creative arts professionals designed to inspire and enlighten students about careers related to the arts.
