Dance 4 Kids at The Taylor School
For the first time ever, The Taylor School, part of the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation, will offer dance classes for kids and young adults at its new studios at 551 Grand Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan beginning in September 2011.
The Taylor School has long provided classes for professional dancers, taught by current and former Company members. Now it is expanding in order to teach kids and young adults in the Taylor style with its astonishing artistry and athleticism – for which the Paul Taylor Dance Company is known throughout the world.
Classes will be taught by Raegan Wood, a member of the Taylor Company from 1982 to 1989 and a respected dance instructor for many years. The weekly classes will be divided by age groups: 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and teenagers. The youngest kids will be taught creative movement, while older students will learn modern dance technique – the basis for Mr. Taylor’s choreography – and his unique style.
“The Taylor School is committed to excellence in the training of aspiring dancers of all ages in the Taylor style, and furthering dance as a source of meaning and expression around the world,” said Executive Director John Tomlinson. “We are pleased to build this connection with our Lower East Side community and all kids in Manhattan.”
