Dancers’ Workshop is honored to announce its 2024 Performance Season Line-up
This year is all about discovering the graceful beauty of physicality and exploring the exciting possibilities of the contemporary. Dancers’ Workshop is delighted to present a season of true artistic prowess and thrills that promises to inspire all who attend.
The season will open with Jackson Hole’s dance company, Contemporary Dance Wyoming (CDW). CDW is an ensemble of professional dancers founded by Artistic Director Babs Case and led in collaboration with Associate Artistic Director Francesca Romo. In its 25th season, CDW represents the pinnacle of expressive and innovative modern dance in Wyoming. Their opening performance, to be held at the Maya Frodeman Gallery on the evening of Friday, May 17, will incorporate the gallery space and original collages by Case in a harmonious entwinement of visual art.
The season will continue with a unique movement experience hosted by Basaya in partnership with Dancers’ Workshop and the Jackson Hole Jewish Community. Join Basaya and our local dance artists as they take the community through a joyous meditative practice incorporating rhythm and breathwork. This donation-based, single-day event takes place the evening of June 13 in DW Studio 1.
CDW, Wyoming’s only professional contemporary dance company, will perform again at the Center Theater on June 21 and 22 in a full-length show featuring the spectacularly talented and athletic members of the company: Michaela Ellingson, Sarah Hemphill, Amy Kingwill, Charlotte Landreau, Francesca Romo, and Bailey Walker. Tickets will go on sale May 20.
The excitement builds as Dancers’ Workshop presents its gala event, the revolutionary Martha Graham Dance Company (MGDC), on July 26 and 27 at the Center Theater. This exciting debut performance in Wyoming is part of Graham’s three-season celebration of its 100th Anniversary, GRAHAM100. Members of the company will also teach classes at Dancers’ Workshop during their residency. Tickets will go on sale June 1 for what the New York Times praises as “one of the great companies of the world.”
In the Fall, the Jackson Hole area is in for another treat. The incredible Australian contemporary circus Circa will perform its new showcase, Humans 2.0, at the Center Theater on October 25 and 26. Germany’s Berlin Morning Post describes Circa as “…impressive and sophisticated contemporary New Circus at its best” – a truly unique opportunity for our Wyoming community. Tickets for the Circa performances will go on sale on September 25.
“This season is exceptionally exciting!” says Babs Case, Artistic Director of Dancers’ Workshop. “There is a thread that connects the Graham company celebrating 100 years to the contemporary companies of CDW, LED (choreographer Lauren Edson and her dancers, currently in residence at Dancers’ Workshop), and Circa. It honors the diverse creative spirit of the art form and their shared extreme athleticism in a performance series that will refresh your idea of dance.”
