Dancers’ Workshop presents the legendary Martha Graham Dance Company

Dancers’ Workshop is honored and delighted to present the Martha Graham Dance Company to Jackson Hole as the company celebrates 100 years of innovation.

The Martha Graham Dance Company (MGDC) has been a leader in the evolving art form of modern dance since its founding in 1926 by legendary choreographer Martha Graham. Graham created her unique dance technique, which has been compared to ballet in its scope and magnitude.

Martha Graham’s approach to dance and theater revolutionized the art form. Today, the Company dancers hail from across the globe, adding their own sprinkles of the contemporary to the core values and vision that built this historic company.

“We are proud to be the oldest dance company in the United States, but have discovered that a celebration encompassing 100 years of artistic innovation informed by vast social, political, and technological change needs a broader canvas than one season can provide!” said Janet Eilber, MGDC Artistic Director in a Company press release from 2023. “Three seasons will allow us to curate and organize this unmatched American legacy in ways that highlight not only the Company’s timeline of firsts and its historic impact, but perhaps more importantly, its continuing relevance and influence.”

The Graham Dance Company will perform excerpts from their 3-season celebration GRAHAM100The First and The Future at the Center Theater for Dancers’ Workshop’s Summer Gala and Community Performance. GRAHAM100 falls under the theme “Dances of the Mind,” focusing on Martha Graham’s psychological works, her multifaceted women characters, and her longtime artistic partnership with renowned visual artist Isamu Noguchi.

“We are so honored to have the Martha Graham Dance Company include Jackson Hole on their 100th-year anniversary tour,” said Babs Case, Artistic Director for Dancers’ Workshop. “This is an opportunity for our community to witness this incredible company, who has greatly influenced dance in America. We are also very proud to have local CDW dancer Charlotte Landreau perform with MGDC on the Center stage for the gala. Charlotte was a principal dancer with the Martha Graham company before she relocated to Jackson and joined the DW family.”

Come see the Martha Graham Dance Company at the Center Theater. The Gala performance is Friday, July 26, and the Community performance is Saturday, July 27. Tickets are on sale now at dwjh.org
