Deeply Rooted Announces Summer Performances
Chicago audiences have several opportunities this summer to see the technique and artistry of Deeply Rooted Dance Theater.
Deeply Rooted’s Summer Dance Intensive, which is taking place now –July 13, culminates in a showcase featuring student performances of company repertory and more July 12 and 13 at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 East 60th Street, Chicago. Participants at Youth and Pre-Professional/Professional levels, as well as those in the Mature H.O.T. Women/Men Moving community programs, experience a rigorous curriculum fostering learning and personal growth and learn a range of company repertory. SDI instructors include April Berry (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater), Josh Francique (Alonzo King LINES Ballet), Deshona Pepper-Robertson (Dayton Contemporary Dance Company), and Deeply Rooted Dance Theater company members.
As part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks program, Deeply Rooted performs Deeply at Dusk: The Classics, a program highlighting Deeply Rooted classic repertory. The free public performance takes place Thursday, August 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive, Chicago. Deeply Rooted performs a new work choreographed by Artistic Director Nicole Clarke-Springer as part of the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project’s Divination: The Dancing Souls of Black Folk, a dance concert exploring the divine, mystical, and spiritual ways our ancestors communicate and celebrate with us, Saturday, August 24, at 5:45 p.m. at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Tickets are free; an RSVP is recommended.
