Forward Motion Dance Festival 6 Brings Global Talent to Miami

Karen Peterson and Dancers (KPD) proudly presents the Sixth Annual Forward Motion Dance Festival and Conference of Physically Integrated Dance (FM6), a trailblazing event celebrating the artistry and inclusivity of dance across abilities. Taking place March 8-9, 2025, at the Sandrell Rivers Theatre, FM6 offers transformative performances and community workshops featuring renowned choreographers and performers from Miami and around the world.

This year’s festival highlights the global reach of Miami’s dance community with a special international collaboration. Sunsik Yoo’s Lights on Friends, an accessible dance company from Seoul, South Korea, will perform as part of a reciprocal exchange made possible by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. This partnership began in the summer of 2023, when KPD performed in South Korea at the KIADA (Korea International Accessible Dance Festival). Miami audiences will now have the rare opportunity to experience South Korea’s innovative approach to physically integrated dance.

In a full-circle moment, KPD will also present their internationally acclaimed trio, “The Axis,” which received standing ovations at KIADA in Seoul. This breathtaking work showcases the company’s signature blend of strength, vulnerability, and grace.

This show is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series, a program that consists of off-site performances at alternative venues with our community partners, ensuring that the magic of the performing arts continues to captivate audiences while MDCA is temporarily closed for renovations.

In addition to performances taking place on March 8, Forward Motion offers an engaging afternoon of free workshops and discussions which invites participants to explore the principles and practices of physically integrated dance. Led by renowned choreographers Sunsik Yoo, Dwayne Scheuneman, and Miami’s own Pioneer Winter, these interactive sessions offer hands-on tools and techniques for creating inclusive dance.

Located at the Sandrell Rivers Theatre (6103 NW 7th Avenue, Miami), FM6 performances are on Saturday, March 8 at 2 PM & 7 PM. Conference workshops are on Sunday, March 9, 12 PM – 6 PM. Tickets for the performances and workshops are $20. For additional information, please contact Karen Peterson Corash at 305-298-5878.
