Forza Dance presents “Shindig” a social gathering with dance at Teatro Latea in the Lower East Side
Forza Dance is thrilled to announce their first annual Shindig – A social gathering with dancing, taking place July 1st at 6:30 pm. The interactive performance will be put on entirely by emerging artists and will showcase artists of varying disciplines. The event is designed to energize the community with an evening of performance, dance and drinks like never before. Shindig is a unique opportunity for individuals of all backgrounds and occupations to mix and mingle, exchange and discuss ideas around art in NYC.
The evening will feature 2 world-premieres by Forza Dance Director, Michaella Barron. The first – “Tarantella di Nuova” is a modern-day exploration of the Italian folktale. In creating this work, Barron honors her Italian heritage and focuses on Tarantella’s liberating qualities for women. It is a story of female triumph and empowerment. The second work of the evening “Intuitiva” was made in collaboration with composer Luisa Bressan. The work began with Bressan’s evolving, unexpected music, which Barron responded to in her raw, dynamic, often-interactive movement. At its core, “Intuitiva” explores our relationship with the self, with another, and with a group. It asks what we can create if we simply trust our intuition, untouched by the outside world.
Featured emerging artists of this event include Sarah Allen, Gabrielle DiNizo, Lucia Flexer-Marshall, Maddy Hall, and Araya Morris. With original composition by emerging composer, Luisa Bressan. Visual artwork by Luisa Bressan and Savannah Dobbs.
Forza Dance creates non-traditional performance experiences to break barriers and bridge gaps between age, gender, culture, assumed hierarchies, and allow a more intimate human connection between audience and performer. As a multi-faceted arts organization, they provide development opportunities for emerging artists and produce original choreography that reach diverse audiences across New York City. In all events, Forza Dance cultivates a sustainable learning environment that uses feedback to ignite change in both the self and the dance industry. Michaella Barron, Director of Forza Dance, created Forza Dance to build a community of artists passionate about creating a more innovative, transparent and empathetic future. Michaella has choreographed numerous staged works as well as music videos, a musical film, and personal film projects. Her dance film “Maria” was selected to premiere for the Booking Dance Festival 2021 and her film “Outside In” was selected to premiere in the DUMBO Dance Festival 2021. Michaella was also chosen as a choreographer for T2 Dance Company’s SPRINGbreak Choreofest 2021. Her works have been shared at various venues around NYC. Between 2021-2023, Michaella’s work was selected to perform at Fertile Ground, Winter Follies, Emerging Artists Theatre, Evening of Contemporary Dance, and as a Guest presenter with Borne Dance Company.
