Heidi Duckler Dance Presents: Architecture Through the Body Workshop

Los Angeles dance company, Heidi Duckler Dance (HDD) presents its Architecture Through the Body workshop. This three-day workshop will focus on architecture, and how it relates to the physical self through movement. Participants will research spaces through the lens of common architectural design and be given the freedom and resources to direct this research towards their creative process, through dance.

The workshop will take place July 14, 2023–July 16, 2023, and meals will be provided. Day one hours are 3:00 – 9:45 pm. Day two hours are 10 am – 6:15 pm. Day three hours are 10 am – 6:30 pm. Cost of the workshop is $250 and it will take place at The EBELL of L.A.

Heidi Duckler Dance has commissioned five experienced teaching artists to educate participants through design, sound and dance. Raymond Ejiofor & JM Rodriguez will teach movement; Nefer Fernandez will share on architecture; and Justin Scheid + Annabelle Freedman will focus on sound.

Initially founded in 1985, HDD is a pioneer in producing interdisciplinary performances. The company develops and rehearses each multi-sensory experience in the site where the work is performed. HDD advances social equity in under-resourced communities by providing opportunities for audience members and students to interact with meaningful spaces, both public and private, that they may not otherwise have access to.

Heidi Duckler is the Founder and Artistic Director of Heidi Duckler Dance in Los Angeles, California and Heidi Duckler Dance/Northwest in Portland, Oregon. Titled the “reigning queen of site-specific performance” by the LA Times, Duckler is a pioneer of site-specific place based contemporary practice.
