Rising Stars Converge in Las Cruces for Fourth Annual Arts Lab Desert Peaks

Dark Circles Contemporary Dance ignites the summer with Arts Lab Desert Peaks, a transformative two-week workshop for aspiring and professional dancers. From July 22 to August 3, 2024, Las Cruces transforms into a vibrant hub of artistic exploration and creativity.

The program welcomes 14 professional dancers from prestigious companies like Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Eisenhower Dance Detroit, and Newport Contemporary Ballet, alongside pre-professional dancers from across the contiguous US, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.

Led by acclaimed choreographer Joshua L. Peugh, a Las Cruces native, participants collaborate to create a world-premiere ballet. Boston-based choreographer and founding co-Artistic Director of Boston Dance Theater, Jessie Jeanne Stinnett, elevates their technique with targeted classes, while sessions in repertory and professional development further refine their unique creative voices.

The program culminates in free public performances on Saturday, August 3, on the Plaza de Las Cruces Stage, coinciding with the bustling Saturday Farmer’s Market. Witness the magic unfold at 9:00 AM and an encore presentation at 10:00 AM.

Arts Lab Desert Peaks is not just about art; it’s about injecting vibrancy into the local economy. The artists reside in Las Cruces for the two-week process, supporting our local businesses.
