The Big Muddy Dance Company announces its 23/24 season: Becoming
Join The Big Muddy Dance Company for a remarkable season of redefining their identity, under the artistic direction of Kirven Douthit-Boyd. They stand stronger in their belief that dance is a vital component of the human condition, now more than ever. With compelling world premieres by some of the industry’s finest dance makers and exciting collaborations with other St. Louis arts organizations, they are aligned with the vibrant ecosystem of innovative and world-class artistic excellence that make St. Louis special.
To open the season, The Big Muddy will present a collection of powerful works including a world premiere by South African director and choreographer Bradley Shelver, and company premiere of the alluring solo “The Calling” by award-winning choreographer Jessica Lang. This concert will also feature an exciting new work by Artistic Director Kirven Douthit-Boyd set to the music of Buddy Rich and other beloved jazz legends. Awakening runs November 2-5, 2023.
Their winter concert will bring captivating evenings of dance to our audiences. Join The Big Muddy as they present 3 unique programs that highlight their journey towards new levels of artistic identity. Be the first to witness a world premiere by choreographer Sidra Bell, Artistic Director of Sidra Bell Dance New York. This engagement also marks the return of audience favorite, and deeply personal work “Cloud 9” by Norbert De La Cruz III. Evolution runs January 11-14, 2024.
The Big Muddy’s spring concert will showcase the work of multifaceted creatives who are trailblazers in their respective artistic communities. They will conclude their 23-24 Season with 3 unique programs to include world premieres by 2021 Guggenheim Fellow Tommie-Waheed Evans, whose work intersects movement vocabulary that blends cultural forms and contemporary dance vocabularies, with narratives that are often rooted in the black experience, and 2022 Princess Grace Award Winning choreographer and director Omar Roman De Jesus who uses his work to express the complexities of Latinx identities. Identity runs May 16-19, 2024.
Additional events include The Big Muddy Ball on November 4, 2023; a St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Collaboration March 16-17, 2024; and a Tour de Dance Progressive Dining and Dance Showcase on April 11, 2024.

Ovation Subscriptions are $130 and include an evening ticket for all three of The Big Muddy’s main stage performances as well as an invitation to one Behind-the-Curtain Showcase.
Applause Subscriptions are $100 and include a Sunday matinee ticket for all three of The Big Muddy’s main stage performances.
New this season: Build your own subscription package to allow for more flexibility. Options include all main stage performances as well as the collaboration with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Tour de Dance. Cost varies.
