Post-performance discussion following the Friday, April 22 performance
The Dance Center at Columbia College Chicago announces its Spring 2022 season, which includes Eiko Otake, Sara Juli, and premiere commissioned work from four Chicago choreographers from the Chicago Artists Performance Platform (CAPP)—Keyierra Collins, Orlando De León Jr., Keisha Janae, and Vershawn Sanders-Ward.
The Dance Center is proud to be supporting the creation of new work from four local choreographers. The group is working in an intensive mentorship practice with choreographer Bebe Miller and her longtime collaborator and Dance Center faculty member Darrell Jones. Director of the Dance Presenting Series Ellen Chenoweth notes, “We have been rebuilding our commissioning practice thanks to support from the Driehaus Foundation and it feels particularly important to help in the development of new dance creations however we can at the moment. There is such incredible talent in the dance worlds of Chicago and I can’t wait to see what these artists create. The fact that they are all alums of the Dance Center adds an extra layer of richness.”
Columbia continues to hold safety measures in place informed by guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State of Illinois, the City of Chicago, and consultations with epidemiology experts from Rush University and the University of Chicago. Additional health and safety protocols have been set in place, including a larger lobby, increased cleaning measures, and an upgraded air filtration system. The theater will be limited to a 75% capacity and all patrons, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the Dance Center. Patrons will need to show proof of vaccination, or a negative test within the past 48 hours before entering the lobby.
General admission tickets are $30. Tickets for students at any institution are $10 and tickets for dance industry members and Columbia faculty and staff are $15.
Tickets are on sale now and are available online at dance.colum.edu or at the Dance Center box office at 1306 S. Michigan Ave. The box office can be reached at 312-369-8330 and is open from Tuesday – Friday, 1-8pm, Saturday, 2-4pm, and the two hours before each performance.
