The Music Centre marked the Plaza for all, opens in LA!

The Music Center recently joined with civic and community leaders to dedicate The Music Center Plaza, opening the newly renovated, accessible outdoor urban space and recognizing it as “The Plaza for All.” The event culminated a 20-month, $41 million renovation. A roster of distinguished speakers, marked the occasion with a land acknowledgement and special ceremony. The event unveiled the Plaza as a principal public square for Los Angeles County, which provides a place where people can not only dine and gather, but also connect with friends and colleagues.

Newport’s Contemporary Ballet announces performance dates for two new productions

Southern California high school students interested in the performing arts can now apply to be a part of The Music Center’sSpotlight, a free annual arts education and scholarship program. A TMC Arts program, Spotlight offers arts training, experience and workforce development skills taught by professional artists and arts administrators, and awards more than $100,000 in scholarships.

San Francisco Ballet presents the world premiere of Trey McIntyre’s The Big Hunger

San Francisco Ballet (SF Ballet) presents the world premiere of Trey McIntyre’s The Big Hunger, his third ballet for the Company, on February 13, 2020 at the War Memorial Opera House. Inspired by the “big hunger” and “little hunger” philosophies of the bushmen of the Kalahari Desert and set to Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2, McIntyre’s new piece returns his “highly imaginative, engaging individuality” (Dance Europe) to the Company, following the triumphant debut of his ballet Your Flesh Shall Be a Great Poem at the 2018 Unbound festival, which gave repeat performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and, most recently, at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London. McIntyre’s The Big Hunger premieres on SF Ballet’s Program 03: Dance Innovations, which also includes Edwaard Liang’s The Infinite Ocean and Harald Landers’ Etudes. Performances will run through February 23, 2020.

The 2019 Bessie Award for Lifetime Achievement in Dance will go to Joan Myers Brown, Founder and Artistic Director of the Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO), in recognition of decades of choreographic influence on and support of the work of black American dance artists.

The Illinois Arts Council Agency is pleased to announce the release of Fiscal Year 2020 guidelines and application materials for its open deadline programs. Grant requests for fiscal year 2020 will be accepted until funds are fully committed or by May 15, 2019 for activities occurring through August 31, 2020.
