Juilliard Dance opens new season in December

Juilliard students in Brian Brooks' TorrentJuilliard Dance, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, opens its 2014-15 season in December with New Dances: Edition 2014, a program featuring four world premiere dances by innovative choreographers like Juilliard alumnus Austin McCormick, alumna Loni Landon, Kate Weare and Larry Keigwin. In the spring 2015 semester, Juilliard Dances Repertory presents repertory works by acclaimed choreographers Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham.

Hedwig Dances in ChicagoCo-presented with Links Hall at The Dance Center in Chicago, Hedwig Dances will partner with DanzAbierta, considered Cuba’s preeminent contemporary dance company, to present exclusive performances on October 9–11. Two interlocking but separately choreographed pieces—Trade Winds by Hedwig Dances’ Director Jan Bartoszek and Aires de Cambio (Air of Change) by DanzAbierta’s Resident Choreographer Susana Pous—will explore the relationship of cyclical time in two different cultures: north and south, temperate and tropical.

Oregon Ballet Theatre celebrates its 25th anniversaryOregon Ballet Theatre will open its 25th season with a special program including a world premiere collaboration between choreographer Nicolo Fonte and Portland’s favorite “little orchestra”, Pink Martini. Opening Saturday, October 11 at the Keller Auditorium, OBT will continue for five performances through October 18. The program will also present George Balanchine’s 1957 Agon and duets from Trey McIntyre’s 2013 Robust American Love, Christopher Stowell’s 2011 Carmen and James Canfield’s 1989 Romeo & Juliet

11th Annual Fall for Dance FestivalNew York City Center will present its 11th Annual Fall for Dance Festival on October 8-19. The two-week festival will feature 20 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world in five unique programs. Highlights include two world premiere festival commissions by Pontus Lidberg Dance and Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble. A series of hands-on, dance-related crafts that a parent and child can do together, Crafterina follows the stories of a little ballerina with savvy crafting skills. Dirty Dancing The Musical National U.S. TourA new miniseries is taking viewers behind the scenes of some of the most beloved Broadway musicals, featuring several national tour productions like Dirty Dancing, Disney’s Newsies, Pippin and Motown the Musical. Lifetime Television’s morning show “The Balancing Act” opened the miniseries on September 9 and 16 with backstage footage of Dirty Dancing. It will return on October 29 with footage of Pippin before moving on to look at Newsies and Motown the Musical.
