Peridance Capezio Center presents 2014 Gala

Peridance Capezio Center 2014 GalaPeridance Capezio Center, led by Artistic Director Igal Perry, has announced that its Annual Gala at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts will be Saturday, June 7 at 8:30 p.m. Celebrating “all things dance,” the 2014 Gala will present performances by Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, The Limón Dance Company, The School at Peridance, Peridance’s Certificate Program, the Peridance Youth Ensemble in memory of faculty member Alan Danielson, and partners Djoniba Dance Centre and BAILA Society. The evening will also feature a special presentation of the Capezio Dance Award honoring Twyla Tharp.

Ballet dancers Natalia Osipova and Ivan VasilievTwo of the world’s most celebrated dancers, Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev, are re-uniting for this summer’s hottest ticket at the London Coliseum on Wednesday–Saturday, August 6-9 in producer Sergei Danilian’s presentation of Solo for Two. The pair will dance three exciting, diverse pieces including two world premieres commissioned by the Segerstrom Center for the Arts and Ardani Artists.

Australian Ballet dancer to guest with ABT

Principal Artist Kevin Jackson of The Australian BalletPrincipal Artist Kevin Jackson of The Australian Ballet will be flying into New York this week to guest star with American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in two Manon performances in June. Invited by the company’s Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, Jackson will be the first Australian Ballet dancer to guest with ABT in more than 20 years.

PNB Principal Kaori Nakamura to retire

Kaori Nakamura as GiselleAfter a 17-year career with the company, Pacific Northwest Ballet Principal Dancer Kaori Nakamura will retire from performing at the end of PNB’s 2013-14 season. Nakamura joined PNB as a soloist in 1997 and was promoted to principal in 1998. She will perform the lead role in Giselle from May 30–June 8 and then dance in PNB’s annual Season Encore Performance on June 8. Following her retirement, Nakamura will join the faculty of PNB School.

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Elisha Willis and César MoralesBirmingham Royal Ballet has announced the 2014-15 Birmingham Hippodrome season, the 25th season at its home theatre in Birmingham, England. The season will celebrate the company’s varied repertory, from the gothic fairy-tale Beauty and the Beast in the autumn through to the return of The Nutcracker for Christmas and Sylvia in the summer of 2015. Added to the mix will be two works new to Birmingham audiences: a re-creation of the ground-breaking Miracle in the Gorbals, and a new one-act ballet from Director David Bintley.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago's Adaptive Youth ProgramsHubbard Street Dance Chicago has announced two new Adaptive Dance Programs: The Autism Project, for youth with autism spectrum disorder in grades 1–6; and Physically Integrated Dance, for neurotypical youth ages 8–16 with physical disabilities. Five-week pilot sessions for both programs are scheduled to begin in June 2014, joining Hubbard Street’s continuing Parkinson’s Project.

Seventh Annual Choreographer's CanvasThe Group Theatre Too (GTT) presents its seventh annual Choreographer's Canvas, a one-night event featuring the works of over 15 established and emerging choreographers from around the country. JR creates Pièce D’Occasion for NYCB

JR works with New York City BalletThe award-winning artist JR has created a new theatrical work for New York City Ballet that will premiere tomorrow on Tuesday, April 29 during the opening night of the company’s 2014 Spring Season. Gauthier Dance premieres AliceGauthier Dance will present the world premiere of Italian star choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti’s Alice on June 25 at Theaterhaus Stuttgart in Germany. Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the work will explore a curious, topsy-turvy world that is constantly shifting from the serious to the comical. CUNY launches new dance program

(Rhapsody En Dance)The City University of New York has launched the CUNY Dance Initiative (CDI), a residency program providing rehearsal and performance space to NYC choreographers and dance companies. The new program, which brings a host of benefits to both CUNY campuses and local dance artists, is supported by a lead $200,000 two-year grant plus additional two-year funding. NYC choreographers may now apply for a residency.
