Desmond Richardson to Receive The 60th Annual Capezio Dance Award

The Capezio Ballet Makers Dance Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Desmond Richardson as the recipient of the 60th annual Capezio Dance Award. The Foundation is a philanthropic organization funded by the world’s premier dance and apparel manufacturer, Capezio Ballet Makers, which will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2012. Awarded annually since 1952, the Capezio Dance Award celebrates significant contributions to American dance by an individual, company or institution. It recognizes those who bring respect, stature and distinction to dance and who exhibit qualities such as innovation, creativity and imagination.

Twyla Tharp to create new work with Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Atlanta Ballet

Later this year, choreographic giant Twyla Tharp will partner with RWB and Atlanta Ballet to create a new full-length ballet. A co-production between the two companies, the new work will have its North American Premiere in Atlanta in February 2012 followed by RWB’s Canadian premiere in Fall 2012. One of the most influential figures of 20th century dance, Tharp has choreographed more than 135 ballets, five Hollywood movies, four Broadway shows and written three books.

Sir Paul McCartney and Peter Martins to collaborate on world premiere ballet for NYCB’s 2011-2012 Season.

New York City Ballet has announced that Sir Paul McCartney and NYCB’s Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins will collaborate on a World Premiere ballet for the Company’s 2011-2012 season. The new ballet, which will premiere at NYCB’s Fall Gala performance on Thursday, September 22, 2011, will mark the first time that Sir Paul has written an original orchestral score for dance.
