Brian Carey Chung, artistic director and choreographer of COLLECTIVE BODY | DANCELAB , a creative think tank for new dance, which debuted at Baryshnikov Arts Center in November 2009. He has created works for Ballet Santa Barbara, Cedar Lake Ensemble II, Connecticut Ballet, Reverb Choreographic Competition, Joffrey Ballet School, LINES Ballet School, Aarhus International Choreographic Competition, 92nd Street Y, and Luna Negra Dance Theater, and was assistant choreographer to Karole Armitage on the 2008 Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of HAIR. His performance career includes the companies of LINES Contemporary Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Ballet Hispanico of New York, and Armitage Gone! Dance where he also served as rehearsal director. Brian has taught master classes internationally and at the University of Hawaii, Stanford University, and New York University, and was on the ballet faculty of Lines Ballet’s San Francisco Dance Center. He holds the MFA in Creative Writing: Poetry (May 2008) from New York University where he also served as an adjunct professor. Brian is an ABT® Certified Teacher who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. He has an avid interest in the future of American dance, devoting much of his week to teaching and private coaching at Joffrey Ballet School, Peridance Capezio Center, and Dance New Amsterdam. Further, Brian is a certified Gyrotonic® instructor and teaches privately throughout the city.
