Jaïra Joy Makes History as First Female Dancer to Rise from National to Red Bull Dance Your Style World Champion
In a historic moment for street dance, Jaïra Joy from The Netherlands claimed the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final title on October 11, 2025, becoming the first female dancer to secure the prestigious global crown. The 18-year-old hip-hop prodigy rose from her victory at the Netherlands National Final to triumph on the world stage at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, where a vibrant crowd of over 10,000 filled the arena with electrifying energy. The 2025 World Final marked a groundbreaking milestone as the first-ever all-female final, culminating in a thrilling showdown where Joy outshone South Korea’s waacking star and 2023 champion, Waackxxxy, in a tightly contested battle.
The journey to the World Final began earlier in the week on October 8–9, when national winners from 46 countries gathered in Los Angeles to compete in the Prefinals for just eight coveted spots on the World Final stage. These qualifiers joined eight wildcard dancers at the Intuit Dome, where the event, hosted by celebrity choreographer Charm La’Donna and hip-hop media icon Sway Calloway, became the first Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final held in the Western Hemisphere. The atmosphere was electric as fans fueled the performers with their unrelenting enthusiasm.
Joy’s path to victory was no small feat. After dominating the Netherlands National Final and advancing through two intense Prefinals, she took to the World Final stage with a high-energy performance that captivated the audience. Reflecting on the experience, Joy said, “The crowd was incredible. Their energy gives you this insane boost — you could feel it from every direction, even from the stage. It really pushed me to go all in.” Her dynamic moves and magnetic presence earned her the win in a close tie against Waackxxxy, solidifying her place in dance history.
Unlike traditional dance competitions, Red Bull Dance Your Style tests dancers’ versatility and spontaneity with impromptu music spanning genres like funk, pop, rock, hip-hop, and old-school classics. With no judges, no pre-planned choreography, and no pre-selected tracks, dancers must rely on their musicality, skill, and stamina to win over the audience through participatory voting. Joy’s ability to adapt and connect with the crowd propelled her to victory, making her only the fifth dancer to claim the global title, following in the footsteps of Dutch dancer Shinshan (Paris 2019), Japan’s The D Soraki (Johannesburg 2022), South Korea’s Waackxxxy (Frankfurt 2023), and Vietnam’s MT Pop (Mumbai 2024).
The next edition of the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in 2026 will light up Zurich, Switzerland on October 24, 2026.
