Karen Peterson and Dancers receives $25,000 NEA grant and announces auditions

Karen Peterson and Dancers (KPD) has received a $25,000 FY 2026 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The funding will support the eighth edition of the Forward Motion Dance Festival, taking place May 8–9, 2027, at the Sandrell Rivers Theatre.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support opportunities across the country for Americans to experience and participate in the arts,” said Mary Anne Carter, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. “As we celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary this year, it is a moment to recognize the important role the arts continue to play in our lives, communities, and heritage.”

The Eighth Annual Forward Motion Dance Festival will feature The Resident Island Dance Theatre from Taipei, Taiwan; Dancing Wheels from Cleveland, Ohio; and Karen Peterson and Dancers from Miami.

“I am pleased to showcase top inclusive choreography from around the globe, including works from Taiwan, Ohio and Florida. The continued support from the NEA has been instrumental in the success of Forward Motion since its launch in 2018,” said Karen Peterson Corash, Founder and Artistic Director.

In addition to announcing the festival lineup, KPD is seeking individuals with and without disabilities for its 2026–2027 season. Auditions will take place Sunday, September 13, at 12 p.m. at KPD Home, 11760 Southwest 72 Avenue, Pinecrest, FL.
