Stella Voskovetskaya – Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Voskovetskaya Stella was born in Kiev February 6, 1965 She began her classical ballet training at age six with Kiev Ballet School (class L Krymskaya, G.Kirilova) At age of 10, Stella was accepted at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in Leningrad In 1980, while studying at the Academy, Stella won People’s Choice Award in the junior group of the 10th International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria In 1983 she graduated from the Academy of Russian Ballet Vaganova in Leningrad (class M.Vasilieva, I.Gensler), and joined the Mariinsky Ballet Troup as a corps de ballet dancer. Next season she was promoted to demi-soloist In 1985, Stella danced Mazurka in Michel Fokine’s ballet “Les Sylphides”, where the main parties were performed by great masters of ballet – Irina Kolpakova and Sergey Berezhnoy In 1986, together with Irina Chistyakov and Alexander Lunev she danced “friends of the Prince” in the ballet “Swan Lake” In the theater Stella continued training and prepared most of the variations under the coaching and supervision of Nina Ukhova and Gabriela Komleva She was a nominee of V International Ballet Competition in Moscow in 1985 and VI International Ballet Competition (anniversary) in 1989 (Chairman of the Jury – Yuri Grigorovich) Ms.Voskovetskaya could certainly be described as a highly technical and expressive dancer, inheriting the best traditions of Russian classical dance school, joining a drama expressive actress with a precision of classical ballet Stella’s repertoire include following variations: • 2nd Shade, Gamzatti – La Bayadère. • Gulnare, Trio of Odalisques – Le Corsaire. • Nancy, Sylphs – La Sylphide. • Sugar Plum Fairy – The Nutcracker. • Lilac Fairy, Princess Florine – The Sleeping Beauty. • Myrta, Zulma, Peasant Pas de deux – Giselle • Pas de trois, Neapolitan Dance – Swan Lake • Zobeide – Scheherazade. • Queen of the Dryads, Street Dancer – Don Quixote • Henrietta – Raymonda • Nocturne, Eleventh Waltz, First Waltz – Les Sylphides • Mare, Sea Princess – The Little Humpbacked Horse • Cinderella – Cinderella In 2004 Ms. Voskovetskaya came to USA, where together with Mr. G.Voronov founded Voronov Academy of Ballet in Morton Grove Illinois. In a very short time that school became very popular not only among the Russian – speaking population.
