Adaptive Dance for Down Syndrome at The School of Ballet Arizona

The School of Ballet Arizona is currently enrolling new students for the spring session of Adaptive Dance for children ages 5-18!

Based on the successful Adaptive Dance Program of Boston Ballet, this program is designed to create a class environment sensitive to the needs of students with Down Syndrome while nurturing their self-expression and developing their movement, social, and rhythmic skills.

AD FOUNDATIONS 1 meets January 21 – April 1 on Saturdays from 9:00 am-9:45 am. This class focuses on the basics of controlled and coordinated movement-developing balance, coordination, stamina and focus. A caregiver must be present and attend each class with their student.

AD FOUNDATIONS 2 meets January 21 – April 1 on Saturdays from 10:00 am-10:45 am. This class builds on the concepts taught in Foundations 1 and incorporates more complex sequencing and requires a higher amount of self-control. Caregiver attendance is to be determined at the discretion of the instruction.

ADAPTIVE CLASSICAL meets January 21 – April 1 on Saturdays from 11:00 am-12:00 pm. This class incorporates a more traditional classical ballet class progression with dancers beginning at the barre and transitioning to dancing in the center. Students are expected to be able to self manage, take verbal directions and exhibit respect for the classroom. This class is invitation only. Caregiver attendance is to be determined at the discretion of the instructor.

All classes will meet in person at The School of Ballet Arizona, located on 2835 E Washington St, Phoenix, AZ 85034. Adaptive Dance instructor will be Michelle Reissig. Click here to learn more.
