Avant Chamber Ballet presents Alice in Wonderland
Avant Chamber Ballet goes down the rabbit hole again with the smash-hit of Alice in Wonderland created by choreographer and director Katie Puder and composer Mikayla Dobson. The performances will be February 17-18th at Moody Performance Hall.
The show is a family-friendly retelling of Lewis Carroll’s famous story of magical adventures with all your favorite characters from the books. The ballet first burst onto the stage in 2013 in an explosion of color, stage magic, and inventive choreography. Mikayla Dobson’s commissioned score combines a quirky fantasy world with sweeping melodies that gesture to ballet scores of the 19th century. Costumes by Ann Boyce, design by Zero Productions, and a student cast from The Dallas Conservatory create a magical world for all ages. Alice encounters a cast of extraordinary and instantly recognizable characters, from the highly strung Queen of Hearts to a playing card corps de ballet, a sinuous caterpillar, and a nutty Mad Hatter. The result shows Avant Chamber Ballet at its best: bringing together world-class dance and live orchestra with enchanting family entertainment.
“I am thrilled to revisit this production and make it even grander. We have grown so much since the ballet premiered. It’s just a joy of a show from the dancers to the orchestra and the student cast of 60!” said Artistic Director Katie Puder.
Avant Chamber Ballet’s mission is to bring exceptional live dance and chamber music together for audiences in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Their ensemble of classically trained dancers presents a diverse repertoire of classical and contemporary works from local choreographers, as well as internationally acclaimed artists. Since their inaugural season in 2012, ACB has presented over twenty world premiere ballets. The organization is in its tenth season, and is led by artistic director Katie Puder.
Alice in Wonderland will be performed at Moody Performance Hall, Dallas Arts District on February 17, 2023 at 7:30pm and February 18, 2023 at 2:30pm & 7:30pm. Tickets on sale now at www.avantchamberballet.org/performances
