New York Premiere of David Morales' BOLÍVAR INVICTUS / Amor en Libertad

New York Premiere of David Morales’ BOLÍVAR INVICTUS / Amor en Libertad

David Morales’ sold out performance at Carnegie Hall in 2015 was a milestone in his illustrious career as one of Spain’s most celebrated flamenco dancers and choreographers. His flamenco musical LORCA / Muerto de Amor was highly praised by critics and garnered enthusiastic standing ovations at Carnegie and other theaters around the world.

Inspired to get back to the drawing board, Morales delivers yet another critically acclaimed flamenco musical, this time inspired by Simon Bolivar’s passionate love affair with Manuela Saenz. BOLÍVAR INVICTUS / Amor en Libertad was born. To date, the musical has been performed on stages throughout Spain and Latin America to thousands of dance and music enthusiasts. Nestor Lacoren of Latin Culture Productions wrote, “BOLÍVAR INVICTUS / Amor en Libertad is a HAMILTON in the key of Flamenco and Caribbean Rhythms.”

Aside from David Morales playing Simon Bolívar and Xin Ying (Principal Dancer with Martha Graham Dance Company) playing Manuela Saenz, the musical features award-winning flamenco guitarists (including Salvador Andrades and Gaspar Rodriguez Roman), flamenco and modern dancers, percussionists, cantaores (flamenco singers, including Mario Robles and Delia Membrive Garcia) and a variety of special guest musicians. With performances at Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santodomingo in Bogota, Teatro Teresa Carreño and Teatro Municipal de Caracas, Teatro Lara and Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, and continuing to generate praise and excitement worldwide, David Morales, “El Bolívar Flamenco,” and his company will be New York premiering BOLÍVAR INVICTUS / Amor en Libertad at The Town Hall this November.

A collection of love letters between Simon Bolívar and Manuela Saenz from the epistolary novel Las Más Hermosas Cartas de Amor de Manuela a Simón continue to inspire Morales’ vision for the musical. Flamenco, dance, music and song merge with Caribbean rhythms to conjure unbridled passion and artistry at its deepest levels. A fitting tribute to an essential chapter in the history of the Americas.

David Morales is a flamenco dancer and choreographer born in La Línea de la Concepción in 1971. He began dancing at age three and by age six was performing at local flamenco festivals. At his first performance, he shared the stage with flamenco legends Camarón de la Isla and Fosforito. To date, Morales has performed in over two dozen countries and at prestigious theaters such as Carnegie Hall, where his flamenco musical LORCA / Muerto de Amor sold out and received a long and enthusiastic standing ovation. With ten major productions under his belt and steeped in tradition, Morales continues to elevate the genre with his perpetual search for new and creative avenues of expression. Morales has received numerous awards in both Spain and Latin America and is actively producing and touring internationally with his company.
