Online Choreographic Mentorship Program by Annabella Lenzu

Originally from Argentina, Anabella Lenzu is a dancer, choreographer, writer and teacher with over 30 years of experience working in Argentina, Chile, Italy, and the USA. Lenzu directs her own company, Annabella Lenzu/Dance Drama (ALDD), and has been commissioned all over the world for opera, TV programs, theatre productions, and by many dance companies. Join Annabella for an Online Choreographic Mentorship Program in January and February, 2022.

January’s focus will be on Form and Content. This workshop will give you the tools to create your own original dances, exploring the elements of composition, both for the stage as well as for dance films. Examine the creative process by learning how to take risks, transition from thinking to feeling to making artistic choices. Through short in-class assignments and extensive work outside of class, students will investigate both form and content in choreography. Participants will create and perform solo studies based on choreographic problems. We look not only at what you dance, but also ask the question, “Why do you dance?” Classes will take place via Zoom on Saturdays, January 8, 15, & 22, 2022 from 11 AM – 1 PM (EDT).

February’s workshop will be on Choreography for the Camera, and is aimed towards filmmakers, directors, choreographers, and dancers interested in dance film collaborations. Led by Anabella Lenzu and photographer Todd Carroll, the objective of the course is to gain an understanding of choreographing for the camera, and the choreography of the camera when recording dance for all screens. Explore how to adapt, extract and see choreographic material transform from 3D to 2D. Participants will be led through exercises, discussions, and works that look at the role of performance and the use of movement in filmmaking, embracing risks and limitations. Explore questions like: “What is Choreography?” “How do we read dance now?” “What is performance for you now during the pandemic?” Classes will take place via Zoom on Saturdays, February 5, 12, & 19, 2022 from 11 AM – 1 PM (EDT).

Cost of each workshop is $180 per person. To apply, please send a cover letter explaining why you are interested in participating, and your resume to info@annabellalenzu.com When applying, please also designate which workshop you are interested in. Certification of completion is available upon request at the end of each workshop.
